From Whyteleafe to the Den – Sheldon Kendall’s Journey to the Professional Stage

Former AFC Whyteleafe youth player Sheldon Kendall is making waves in the professional game following a remarkable rise through the ranks at Millwall FC.

The talented young winger, who began his footballing journey at just seven years old with Balham Blazers, made a significant step forward when he joined Whyteleafe during his formative years. It was here, at Under-14 level, that his potential began to shine through – ultimately catching the attention of professional scouts early in the season.

After impressing in his first league game of that campaign and putting in a strong pre-season shift, Sheldon earned a trial at Millwall – a moment he describes as both nerve-racking and exhilarating. He embraced the opportunity and quickly settled in, setting the tone for what has become an exciting development path.

Sheldon has since gone on to feature across Millwall’s Under-18s, Under-21s, and even the first-team squad this season. His hard work and consistency have not gone unnoticed; he has already tallied eight goals and eight assists across all competitions and age groups this year.

In January, the winger was rewarded with his first professional contract – an incredible achievement, offered 18 months ahead of schedule. Just days later, he made his senior debut in the FA Cup Third Round against Dagenham & Redbridge at The Den, coming off the bench in what he described as a “surreal” moment.

Despite a minor shoulder injury earlier in the season, Sheldon has largely remained fit and focused, maintaining a strong presence in the Professional Development League sides and continually earning praise for his performances.

Reflecting on his progress, Sheldon credits the individual focus and support provided by Millwall’s coaching staff as a key factor in his development, along with the valuable input from a wide range of coaches offering different perspectives and advice.
